Content testing on a small budget: a plan for product brands

A step by step plan for brands with a small team and more content than time.

Start with what you already have

Most small brands have a folder full of product photos, short clips, unboxing videos and old ads. That is enough to start. You do not need new production to learn which kind of post your buyers respond to.

Pick 3 posts that are clearly different from each other: for example a close-up of the product, the product being used, and a before and after. Different ideas teach you more than 3 versions of the same one.

Test away from your own account

Your own account is where buyers judge your brand. Weak posts there cost you reach on the next post too. Testing on separate, clearly labelled accounts lets you try ideas without that cost.

Every test post should be labelled as an ad, and posted by a real person, not a scheduling bot.

Pay only for proven posts

Do not promote anything until it has shown, without ads, that people save and share it. Then put a small budget behind that one post.

Our free test does this with 3 of your posts over 10 days, at no cost. The pilot does it with 20 posts over 30 days for €500.

Keep a simple log

One line per post is enough to start spotting patterns.

  • What the post shows, in 5 words.
  • Views, saves and shares at 7 days.
  • What you would change next time.
